About the Artist

A financial journalist and church pastor until the age of 50, Chilan Lau embarked on her artistic journey in the latter part of her life. Painting has become a means through which she processes her emotions and connects with her natural surroundings. She often use colour, form, and symbolism to convey the complexity of emotions, Whether it’s the vibrant burst of joy in a celebratory piece or the quiet contemplation in a somber work, each creation is a journey into her emotional landscape.

Chilan’s paintings varies, ranged from traditional to abstract. And most of time, she loves to paint outdoors, taking inspiration from everyday things like gardening, hiking, and traveling. All her paintings are closely connected to nature. She wants her art to make audiences think, feel, and see beauty in their own unique way.

As a self-taught Chinese Canadian artist, Chilan has honed her skills and displayed her work at the Oakville Art Society, Visual Arts Mississauga, and Hamilton Ontario Plein Air Artists, Ontario. She is a long standing member of OAS and has sold her artwork at various art shows and exhibitions, with pieces in private collections both in Canada and China.
